Postman Pro free features available for small projects, developers

Small projects and individual developers now have access to API development tools with Postman free of charge, since the company’s latest version of the free Postman app will have limited-quantity access to many of the paid features of Postman Pro.

Postman is a provider of an API development environment, and version 5.0 of its Postman app allows API developers to leverage the full power of Postman, with support at every stage of their workflow, according to the company. The app is free to all users and it’s available on Mac, Windows, and Linux native apps, as well as a Chrome app.

Developers will have access to these popular features of Postman Pro in Postman 5.0, but for free and in small-project quantities. For instance, users will be able to access Postman’s private and public documentation feature (1000 views/month); run API monitoring calls (1000 calls/month); create and use mock servers (1000 server calls/month); and access Postman Collections via the Postman API (1000 API calls/month).

“Postman firmly believes that developers deserve more,” said Abhinav Asthana, CEO and co-founder of Postman. “The growth and popularity of Postman Pro since its launch last year has demonstrated to us that these features should be available to all API developers, to make their workflow faster, easier and better.”

Customers that choose Postman Pro have support throughout their API workflow, with unlimited access to documentation, mock servers and the Postman API. They also can send a higher number of free API monitoring calls with an option to purchase discounted blocks of 500,000 calls for monitoring work.

A few months ago, Google introduced an anti-phishing feature for Gmail on Android after a widespread attack affected millions of users. Now, Mountain View is adding the extra security measure to Gmail for iOS.

Sometime within the next 15 days, a warning message will pop up when you click on a suspicious link. It will let you know that the URL you want to access leads to an untrusted site, and it will ask if you’re absolutely sure you want to continue.

If you do choose to continue, Google will load another warning that the website you’re trying to visit “has been identified as a forgery.” It’s a multi-layered protection against phishing attempts, and you’ll have to knowingly visit scam websites to fall victim to their schemes. Of course, it can only protect you if you click a link in Gmail — you’ll still have to practice vigilance everywhere else on the web.

Mozilla has launched an online service for private sharing of encrypted files between two users. It’s called Send, and it’s meant to ensure users’ shared files do not remain online forever.

Encrypted file sharing: How does it work?

Send allows users to upload a file (up to 1GB), it encrypts it, and provides a link that can be sent to the person for whom the file is intended.

The link will “expire” after 1 download or 24 hours – whichever comes first – and Mozilla says that all the sent files will be automatically deleted from the Send server.

“When you use Send, Mozilla receives an encrypted copy of the file you upload, and basic information about the file, such as filename and file size. Mozilla does not have the ability to access the content of your encrypted file, and only keeps it for the time or number of downloads indicated,” the company claims.

John Gruen, Mozilla Product Manager explained to Help Net Security that Send uses the Web Cryptography JavaScript API with the AES-GCM algorithm for client side encryption and decryption, and that the service works in all browsers that support the latest Web Cryptography JavaScript API.

I’ve tested the service on Safari, Firefox and Chrome, and it works like a charm on the latter two. Naturally, both the sender and the recipient have to use a browser that supports the API in question.

If you’re going to use the service, know that anyone you provide with the unique link to your encrypted file will be able to download and access that file, so be careful to whom you actually provide the link.

Send has been released as part of the company’s Test Pilot, a site where the Mozilla team publishes experimental features that may or may not end up in Firefox or some of its other software offerings, or even continue their life as standalone solution.

WhatsApp Beta has been updated on Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile Devices. The update takes the app to version  2.17.234.

The latest update for WhatsApp Beta is rolling out now and there aren’t any visible changes in the app except one.

This update now doesn’t allow users to use the check mark character in their profile name. Well, it may seem it is a bug but it isn’t.

WABetaInfo had informed a few days ago that Whatapp is planning an app for business users for communication and is called Small and Medium Business that will be soon available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms.

A verified business will have the green tick mark “✅” emoji in its push name as we have seen in different social networking sites so as to make sure users can know the authenticity of the other users as official or not. And this may be the reason Whatsapp may be testing this change for their upcoming app for business.

This update also had some performance improvements and bug fixes. For consumers, Whatsapp has been planning a lot of new features that would be soon available.

After launching Messenger 2.0 in April, Facebook has just dropped the platform’s 2.1 update. Once again, most of these changes are here to help businesses, with Facebook focusing on improving how its Messenger bots work in the latest update.

Messenger now has built in natural language processing (NLP), which means the platform can detect seven key traits of any message before passing it onto a businesses’ bots. The addition of NLP helps Messenger flag crucial information from an inquiry, like date and time, location, phone number, amount of money and email addresses.

This makes life easier for consumers too, meaning that they’re more likely to get the right help quickly, rather than spending a frustrating conversation talking to a bot that fails to register the crucial info.

With Facebook’s bots being far from perfect, 2.1 also brings with it a handover protocol, which allows a business to transition seamlessly from a bot responding to common queries to more complicated support from a human employee. This Handover protocol service is now in open beta.

In a move that will make life much easier for customers, businesses will now also be able to feature a wider choice of contact buttons on their Facebook page. Joining the currently available “Send Message” button are options for users to Shop Now, Get Support, Get Updates, Play Now or to Get Started.

As far as bots go, it’s certainly a good start. Still, It looks like we’re a way off from resurrecting our loved ones as holograms at the moment, so that’s something for Facebook to aim towards in Messenger 3.0.

WhatsApp Beta has received a new update on Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile Devices. The latest update for WhatsApp Beta is rolling out and it brings some UI changes inside the conversation page.

The updated WhatsApp Beta for Windows Phone now comes with improved UI on the GIF sending page in conversations. The layout has been revamped completely. The search bar is at the bottom and the search button is at the bottom on the left side.

The performance improvements and bug fixes are part of the update as well. WhatsApp is also working on a new feature that will let you watch YouTube videos within the conversation.

WhatsApp is testing the feature for iOS devices but it could also be released to Android and WIndows phones. The rumour has it that WhatsApp has no plan to launch a new Windows 10 app built from scratch. A source exclusively told us that WhatsApp will continue to focus on the Windows Phone 8.1 app and there is no major update in the pipeline.

WhatsApp has received many new features after it was purchased by Facebook. Well, today we will talk about the “Video Calling” feature, which was introduced in November 2016. It seems that the developers are now trying to bring a new mode for this feature.

The new mode is called “picture-in-picture” (PIP) and it was firstly spotted inside the WhatsApp version 2.17.265 of the application that was running on developer preview version of Android O.

According to WABetaInfo, the Android 8.0 O comes with a particular API that was used by the developers of WhatsApp in order to enable this new mode. With that being said, there are chances that the new PIP mode will not function on Android Nougat and on older versions of the operating system.

It is not yet sure if the WhatsApp users will be able to move the PIP window around the screen or if it will stay in a fixed position. At the same time, it is not sure if the video chat will continue in PIP mode in case one of the users will decide to switch to another application.

With that being said, we will need to wait for this mode to be released widely to get more information about it. One thing it is sure: the WhatsApp Video Calling PIP mode will be very useful for the users.

It is not yet sure if the iPhone version of WhatsApp will receive this feature, but more information about this should be unveiled in the coming weeks. However, since the developers have mentioned that they’ve used a specific Android O’s API, it will be difficult to release the PIP mode for iOS.

JetBrains released version 2017.2 for its cross-platform C/C++ IDE CLion this week. In addition to C++ correctness and performance improvements, JetBrains also updated its IntelliJ IDEA product with new features and bug fixes.

In CLion 2017.2, developers will see better code quality with new Clang-Tidy integration. CLion has more than 30 built-in code inspections to alert users to unused code and uninitialized variables, and it also performs Data Flow Analysis to “catch infinite recursion, endless loops, missing returns, and unreachable code,” wrote JetBrains’ Anastasia Kazakova.

In the near future, JetBrains is planning a major overhaul of CLion’s C++ parser. According to Kazakova, the team wants to make sure it is correct on each level, uncovering any hidden problems.

For now, CLion 2017.2 brings in fixes to various parts of the C++ parsing and resolving engine, which means reduced number of false-positive code analysis checks, more accurate navigation, refactorings, and more, according to Kazakova.

CLion 2017.2 also comes with a new quick-fix to preserve non-trivial constructor calls on an unused variable.

Major highlights in IntelliJ IDEA 2017.2 include smarter coding assistance, a “neater” UI, and performance updates. This version also comes with smarter code completion and control flow analysis. Smart Completion becomes aware of builder classes and suggests chains of method calls on its first call, and control flow analysis is smart enough to detect a wider array of problems, especially problems related to booleans, strings, arrays, lists, and maps.

IntelliJ IDEA was updated with inspections and quick fixes, refactorings, Spring Boot actuator endpoints, Kotlin 1.1.3 support, Groovy 2.5.0 support, a new user interface with a Windows 10 native look and feel, and JavaScript and TypeScript improvements.

In case you didn’t know about it, there is an update that was released for the Android TV app. It’s been a while since we received the previous update.

The best part is that if you look at the version number, it won’t be just a bug fixer this time. Actually, it comes together with a completely redesigned UI, which is extraordinary. There are also a couple other functional changes too. Even though the update doesn’t tackle many of the users’ requests, it’s still a huge progress.

A New Interface

Just when you look at the new YouTube app for Android TV, you will see that things are entirely changed. The basic structure is indeed the same, but the developers moved a lot of things around. For example, you will see the navigation drawer much lighter on the left side. This happens because they removed the list of subscriptions and other options from there.

You will also notice that the signed-in account was placed at the top. As such, users don’t have to deduce it anymore from the recommendations, nor to open the settings menu to figure it out. The color theme also brings some darker shades in the background. Meanwhile, white shades are used to highlight the elements you select.

Video Player Changes

There are some important changes with the video player as well. Visually, the biggest one is the fact that there is no more big red control bar. This means that you have a much better visibility of the video now. In fact, the new look is quite similar to the one YouTube uses for phones.

Bottom Line

The conclusion here would be the fact that the radical design change made by YouTube is loved by many users. The interface looks cleaner and much easier to use.
