Repeating what it did during E3, Ubisoft is once again giving away the Starter Edition of its fighting game, For Honor. What’s changed this time is the service it’s being offered on, with the giveaway now being held on Steam instead of Uplay.
Introduced in March this year, the Starter Edition brings along complete access to the story mode, all multiplayer maps and modes, as well as six heroes. However, unlocking further heroes will cost Starter Edition players far more Steel, the in-game currency, than regular players, meaning the grind will be tougher. The cost of unlocking customizations is also higher for this edition.
The game is currently in its second year of support, with the next major update being Marching Fire, which will introduce a brand new faction to the game among other features. The game is also running on dedicated servers now, following Ubisoft’s implementation of the highly-requested feature earlier this year.
Usually costing $15, For Honor Starter Edition can now be claimed for free via its Steam store page. The promotion will come to an end on August 27. Also, note that while this is a Steam copy, the game will still launch Uplay when running it, just like any other Ubisoft game.
Moreover, while this promotion is exclusive to the PC version, Xbox One owners with Xbox Live Gold subscriptions can grab a free copy of For Honor standard edition via this month’s Games with Gold as well.
